Men’s Golf Takes Fourth at Mark Simpson Colorado Invite

Panke Vaults Up Leaderboard, Placing Fourth

BOULDER, Colorado (10/1/24) – The University of Wyoming men's golf team concluded its busy four-week stretch with a very strong finish at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite. The Pokes took fourth as a team with three golfers residing in the top 15 of the final individual leaderboard.

"For us to have a chance and for us to be in the conversation today, that's great," head coach Joe Jensen said. "It was a really good field, a nationally-ranked field, and the guys had a shot. The guys played hard, and it was exciting today."
 
Colorado State took the team title at 828 (-36). Three – St. Mary's Aidan Lee, Colorado's Justin Biwer and UTEP's Dylan Teeter – shared the individual crown at 203 (-13).

Kristof Panke saved his best for last, and his best was the strongest round of anyone on Tuesday. Panke fired a 65 (-7) for a three-round score of 205 (-11), which placed him fourth.

Panke's final round was a flawless one. He wrote in seven birdies and not a single bogey.

Jaren Calkins also logged a top-10 finish, placing in ninth at 208 (-8). He carded a Round 3 score of 71 (-1) that had a pair of birdies, an eagle and three bogeys.

Patrick Azevedo vaulted up the leaderboard and finished in a tie for 14th at 210 (-6). He boasted a final-round 66 (-6) that was littered with eight birdies.

Brody Leid tied for 35th but struggled Tuesday with as final-round 75 (+3). He finished at 214 (-2).

Damon Vilkauskas rounded out the starters for the Cowboys with a tie for 45th at 216 (E). He closed with a 73 (+1).

Davis Seybert, playing as an individual, tied for 58th at 218 (+2). He shot a final-round 77 (+5).

Ethan Smith, also playing as an individual, closed the book on the Pokes at the Colorado Invite. He tied for 85th at 225 (+9).

Wyoming takes the next month off from competition. The Cowboys are back in action Nov. 2-4 at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.
