LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 11, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl golf squad opens their spring schedule this week as they head to Palm Desert, California to compete in the Mountain Classic Match play Feb. 13-14 at The Classic Club.
It will be a change of pace for the Cowgirls to start the spring season as they will compete in the match play format where eight teams will be seeded into a bracket competing in head to head matches over the two-day competition. The top two seeds of the tournament will be taken up by Mountain West opponents as Nevada is tabbed as the one-seed while Boise State occupies the two-seed.
Last season the Cowgirls put together a good performance at the Mountain Classic Match play picking up a win over CSUB on their way to a sixth-place finish led by
Morgan Ryan who had an outstanding tournament going 3-0. Ryan will be joined in the Cowgirl lineup this week by
Samantha Hui who posted three straight top 25 finishes earlier this season.
Rounding out the rest of the field will be Montana State, Northern Arizona, Portland State, Southern Utah and Seattle who won the Mountain Classic Matchplay title last season defeating Boise State in the finals.
The first round of matches tee off on Monday at 7 a.m. with round two starting after the conclusion of round one. The tournament will be concluded on Tuesday with the final round of play teeing of at 7 a.m.
