Lahaina, Maui (Oct. 27, 2023) --  The Wyoming Cowboys will enter Saturday's final round of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in 16th place in the field of 20 teams.  Wyoming shot a 291 (+7) round on Friday and will carry a 575 (+7) 36-hole total into Saturday's final round.  Three Cowboy veterans are leading the scoring for the Pokes.  Junior Jaren Calkins is tied for 57th with a two-round total of 142 (Even).  He is followed closely by graduate Jimmy Dales and junior Kristof Panke, who are both tied for 68th at 144 (+2) in the field of 120 golfers.

Another Cowboy junior, Davis Seybert, is one shot back of Dales and Panke at 145 (+3) to tie for 77th.  True freshman Noah Wagner rounds out UW's five-man lineup.  Wagner sits at 161 (+19) and is in 119th place.  Wyoming's other true freshman, Evan Johnson, is playing as an individual and is tied for 109th at 153 (+11).

"We played pretty good today, but like Thursday's opening round we had another tough finish," said Joe Jensen, University of Wyoming Director of Golf.  "On our last holes, the ninth and the 10th, we had three guys make double bogeys, so we gave back six shots on that last hole.  Kristof (Panke) had a lot of birdies, but he also mixed in some bogeys.  He still posted our low round of the day with an even-par round of 71.  We made some little mental mistakes today that we will get corrected.  Our goal tomorrow is to put together a complete round and see if we can move up the standings."

Saturday's third and final round is scheduled to tee off with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m., Hawai'i Time (12:30 p.m., Mountain Time).  The Cowboys will play Saturday's final round in a foursome with Cal State Northridge, Clemson and Connecticut.  Wyoming trails UConn by only five strokes, is seven strokes back of Cal State Northridge and 11 behind Clemson.  The Cowboys lead Denver by four strokes and are six strokes ahead of Colorado.

Liberty holds a five-stroke lead over Oklahoma and East Tennessee State heading into Saturday's final round.  Liberty has posted a 36-hole total of 534 (-34), while the Sooners and East Tennessee State sit at 539 (-29).  The individual co-leaders are Mats Ege of East Tennessee State and Josh Ryan of Liberty, who are tied at 130 (-12).  Robbie Higgins of North Florida and Luke Kluver of Oklahoma are one stroke back at 131 (-11).

This year's Ka'anapali Classic is being played in support of Maui Wildfire victims, who suffered catastrophic fires in early August 2023.  Funds raised by teams, alumni and fans will directly benefit families who lost their homes, including associates of the Ka'anapali Golf Courses who lost everything.  The fundraising efforts during the tournament will be done in partnership with 501(c) 3 organizations Spare for Change and Member for a Day.
