LONG BEACH, California — A group of University of Wyoming Track & Field runners and throwers wrapped up a three-day week of action in California for the Cowboys and Cowgirls at the Long Beach Invitational.
The long jump was the highlight event for both the Cowboys and Cowgirls on the day. On the women's side,
Shayla Howell had an outstanding performance finishing as the runner-up in the field of over 50 competitors with a leap of 20-6.5.
Sadie McMullen also had a strong outing finishing 16
th with a leap of 18-8. In the men's long jump
Kareem Mersal went 24-5 to finish in sixth out of the 50 athletes competing.
Hunter Brown also finished in the top 20 taking 17
th with a leap of 23-0.75.
In the triple jump,
Aumni Ashby produced a top ten finish going 40-2.25 to finish seventh amongst the 36 competing athletes. On the men's side,
Jefferson Danso finished 25
th with a leap of 45-3.
Howell was also in action in the women's 100M clocking a time of 12.27 to finish in the top half of the field taking 35
th. On the men's side
Wyatt Moore finished 22
nd with a time of 10.90 while Carter Wilkinson and
Jaymison Cox finished 33
rdand 66
th respectively.
In men's 110M hurdles
Caige McComb ran 15.07 to finish in 39
th while
Sage Coventry finished 58
th with a time of 21.77.
In the women's 400M hurdles, Gabby Drube paced a trio of Cowgirls finishing 42
nd with a time of 1:05.91. The duo of
Jenae Ramirez and
Caroline Larsson finished 45
th and 48
th with times of 1:06.36 and 1:07.43 respectively. On the men's side,
Jaheim Ferguson ran a 54.56 to finish 20
th while Caig McComb finished 37
th with a time of 56.33.
Four Cowboys were in action in the men's high jump led by
Samuel Schneider who finished tied for 23
rd after clearing 6-7. Just behind him
Sage Coventry and
Pete Mead finished in 25
th and 26
th respectively while
Hunter Brown ended up placing 34
th.
Addison Henry turned in a strong performance in the women's shot put finishing 11
th with a toss of 48-3.5 which is just shy of Henry's personal best. Also competing in women's shot put,
Cosette Stellern finished 73
rd with a mark of 36-7.75. For the Cowboys,
Nathan Reid and
Mikey DeRock finished 43
rd and 56
th respectively in the shot put.
Reid closed out his day with a personal best in the discus going 181-11 earning him a ninth-place finish. With the personal best mark, Reid continues to sit in tenth on the UW all-time top ten list. On the women's side, Stellern finished 40
th with a throw of 144-6.
