LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 26, 2022) – The University of Wyoming Women's Golf squad is set for a trip out west this week as they will travel to Ewa Beach, Hawaii for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by Hawaii. The Cowgirls will look to put together a solid performance in what will be their final competition in the month of March.

"I think for every golfer Hawaii is a bucket list destination and the Cowgirls are no different. We are fortunate enough to get to play just weeks before the LPGA will at the same course." Head Women's Golf Coach Josey Stender said, "I think the quick turnaround will benefit us as the team is getting into a rhythm. This tournament also features another strong field however, if we can close the gap between our number one and number five scores we will be competitive."

The Cowgirls are coming off of an 11th place finish at The Gold Rush a week ago which was highlighted by the freshman duo Meghan Vogt and Kyla Wilde. Vogt led the Cowgirl lineup wrapping up the tournament as Wyoming's top scored placer finishing tied for 35th. Playing as individual, Wilde finished tied for 30th being a very consistent performance. The dynamic freshman duo is now set to play together in the starting lineup for the first time during the spring schedule.

Joining the two freshmen in the starting lineup will be Jessica Zapf, Samantha Hui and Cristiana Ciasca. Morgan Ryan will also be making the trip competing as an individual.

The field in Hawaii features quite a few familiar opponents for the Cowgirls highlighted Gonzaga, who the Cowgirls have competed against three times this season including at the UVU Hobble Creek Classic where Gonzaga captured the team title. Hawaii and Long Beach State will be the other teams to watch in the field with both teams coming off of strong performances at The Gold Rush where they both finished ahead of the Cowgirls.

The Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational will be played at Hoakalei Country Club on the 6,123-yard par 72 course. The first day of play will feature two rounds of play with the final round being played on Tuesday, March 8. Athletes will tee off at 10:45 a.m. MT both days.
