Two Cowgirls Finish in Top 25 at Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

Ewa Beach, Hawaii (March 8, 2022) – Two Cowgirls posted top 25 finishes as the University of Wyoming Women's golf team wrapped up play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Tuesday at the Hoakalei Country Club in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. As a team, the Cowgirls finished ninth coming in ahead of reigning West Coast Conference Champions Gonzaga. 
 
"The team really rallied today after and up and down start and we played the very difficult stretch of the course very well. We also were much more in the mix with the rest of the field today."  Head Women's Golf Coach Josey Stender said, I'm very proud of Jess and Sam for playing so steady throughout the tournament. I'm also proud of Meg coming back and having a solid, strong finish." 
 
The Cowgirls were led by the veteran duo of Jessica Zapf and Samantha Hui who both posted scores of 228 (+12) to finish tied for 22nd. For Zapf, it is her best finish of the season and comes off of an extremely consistent performance that saw her score 76 (+4) through all three rounds of play. For Hui, it is her second-best finish of the season and her second top 25 finish of the season.
 
Freshman Meghan Vogt had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday shooting a 74 (+2) which was the lowest round of the day by and Cowgirl and helped her to finish tied for 28th with a total score of 230 (+14). Rounding out the Cowgirl lineup is Kyla Wilde and Cristina Ciasca who finishes tied for 46th and 52ndrespectively. 
 
Morgan Ryan was the lone Cowgirl to compete as an individual and she put together a solid tournament finishing third among the field of individuals and 49th overall. Ryan posted a three-day score of 241 (+25) to help earn herself a top 50 finish.
 
As a team, the Cowgirls posted a three-round score of 922 (+58) to finish in ninth ahead of the reigning WCC champs Gonzaga and sitting just five strokes behind Nevada and Long Beach State. Sacramento State captured the team title with a score of 885 (+21) while host school Hawaii finished in second.
 
The Cowgirls will now have some time off before heading to Maricopa, Arizona on April 4-5 to host the annual Wyoming Cowgirls Classic.
