Palm Desert, Calif. (March 3, 2022) --  The Wyoming Cowboys maintained their position in sixth place after the conclusion of the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Thursday.  UW shot a second round 291 (+3) for a two-round total of of 579 (+3) heading into Friday's final round.  Three Cowboys will enter the final round among the Top 15 individuals.  Senior Bryce Waters is tied for 11th at 142 (-2) and redshirt freshman Patrick Azevedo and junior Tyler Severin are tied for 15th at 143 (-1).

Nevada sits atop the 20-team field at 567 (-9).  Charlotte is two strokes back of the Wolf Pack in second at 569 (-7).  Long Beach State holds down third at 575 (-1).  New Mexico State and Boise State are tied for fourth at 577 (+1), only two strokes ahead of the Cowboys.

Quim Vidal Mora of Nevada leads the individual competition by on one stroke over three individuals -- Aidan Thomas of New Mexico State, Ben Woodruff of Charlotte and his Nevada teammate AJ Lintunen.  Vidal Mora fired a two-round total of 138 (-6), while Thomas, Woodruff and Lintunen are tied for second at 139 (-5).

Severin shot the low round of the day for the Cowboys, with a two-under par round of 70.  Azevedo posted an even-par round of 72 on Thursday have opening with a 71 (-1) Wednesday.  Waters was tied for the tournament lead on Wednesday at 68 (-4) and added a solid 74 (+2) on Thursday.

"I'm proud of the way our guys quietly hung in there today and competed," said Joe Jensen, UW Director of Golf and Head Men's Golf Coach.  "We got off to a little bit of a slow start, but came back and played well on the back nine.  I feel terrific about that.  The kids played hard and competed well.  We have some really good things happening, and we have a nice balance on our team right now.

"Going into tomorrow, the conditions look to be different.  They're expecting wind and colder temperatures tomorrow, so it will be important our guys to maintain their focus.

"The other encouraging factor is that we are competing with two Mountain West teams (Nevada and Boise State), who are both ranked in the Top 50 teams in the country.  That is really encouraging for this early in the spring season."

The third and final round of the 2022 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate will be played Friday, March 4 starting with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., Pacific Time (9 a.m., Mountain Time).

The 2022 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate is being played at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.  The course measures 7,305 yards and plays to a par of 72.
