LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 12, 2022) – The University of Wyoming Women's Golf team will return to action this week as they kick off their spring schedule at the Mountain Classic Match Play tournament in Palm Desert, California. This tournament will be a change of pace for the Cowgirls as they will compete in three rounds of match play over the course of Monday and Tuesday.

"The team couldn't be more excited to get back to tournament play this week.  They all have put in a tremendous amount of work over the break on their games and in the weight room." Head Women's Golf Coach Josey Stender said, "The match play format isn't something we get to play often but I think we thrive in the unique team environment it offers. We certainly aren't going out and expecting perfection but to be competitive and take advantage of our home away from home course knowledge."

The tournament features eight teams seeded and set up in a bracket with each team competing in three rounds of match play. The Cowgirls come in as the four seed and face fifth seeded Cal State Fullerton in the first round. In the second round, the Cowgirls will be up against either CSUB or top seeded Seattle.

The only other Mountain West team in the bracket is Boise State who comes in as the two seed and plays seventh seeded Montana State in the first round. The final first round matchup will be Utah Valley against Portland State.

The Cowgirls will look to build off of the solid fall season they had which saw them finish in the top ten at the UVU Hobble Creek Classic as well as record multiple individual career low score's and top 25 finishes.

The first round of match play is set to tee off at 8 a.m. with live stats available on Golfstat.
