PALM DESERT, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2022) – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl Golf squad concluded play at the Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, California on Tuesday facing off against third seeded Utah Valley.
Morgan Ryan highlighted the day with a big win to go 3-0 at the tournament, but the Cowgirls fell to the Wolverines 2-3-0.
"Today was a battle with the extreme wind conditions. Unfortunately we were edged out on the last hole in two of the matches but it was a back and forth battle with UVU." Head Women's Golf Coach
Josey Stender said, "Meghan played much more confident today and had a solid win to lead us off. Morgan also continued wither her great play and ended the event undefeated for us."
After going 2-0 on day one of the tournament, Ryan went up against Utah Valley's Lauren Taylor in the final round of play. Ryan took the lead after the second hole and stayed one step ahead of her opponent the rest of the day winning 2&1. Ryan was the only Cowgirl to go 3-0 in the two days of play. Freshman
Meghan Vogt also had a great final round of play downing Utah Valley's Leighton Shosted for her first victory of the tournament ending on a high note.
The fifth-place match between the Cowgirls and Wolverines was very tightly contested with UVU clinching two of the individual matches on the final hole to win the match.
Up next for the Cowgirls they will have a week off before traveling to Seal Beach, California on Feb. 28 – March 1 for The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State.
