LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 11, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team puts its three-match winning streak on the line this Sunday as the Cowgirls travel to face Kansas in a pair of matches in Lawrence. First serve for the day's opening match is set for 8:30 a.m., Mountain Time.
Wyoming (4-4) is coming off a pair of solid victories last weekend down in McComb, Mississippi where it blanked Southeastern Louisiana, 7-0 February 5 before dispatching of West Alabama, 6-1 Feb. 6. The Cowgirls' lone loss of the weekend was the doubles point to UWA, where the Tigers took 2-of-3 in the doubles' portion.
Maria Oreshkina and Sophie Zehender both played a match each at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles' positions last weekend and both picked up straight-set victories at each spot. With the wins, Oreshkina is currently on a three-match winning streak while Zehender is won six-in-a-row dating back to fall tournament play.
Noesjka Brink and Lucia Malinak also have won all their matches during UW's three-match streak with Brink leading the Cowgirls both this spring and in the fall with an 11-5 record overall and a 7-1 mark in dual action. Over their last 10 matches, both Brink and Zehender are 8-2.
On the doubles' side of play, the duos of Ida Krause and Oreshkina, as well as Brink and her partner, Mihaela Kaftanova, lead the Cowgirls with five doubles victories each this spring. Overall, the Cowgirls are 14-9 in doubles action during dual play.
Kansas enters Sunday's play with a 1-3 mark but won its lone home match of the spring last week, a 5-2 victory over Arkansas. The Jayhawks were picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Big 12 Women's Tennis Poll.
