The Wyoming Cowboys will tee off an outstanding 2021-22 schedule on Friday, Sept. 10-Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. It will be one of 13 tournaments the Cowboys will play in during 2021 fall and 2022 spring seasons.
Wyoming will host three events during the spring portion of their schedule, beginning with a new event, the Wyoming World Team Match Play on Feb. 11-12 in Palm Desert, Calif. The Cowboys will also host its annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert on March 2-4. UW will also host the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 4-5 in Chandler, Ariz.
Returning Cowboys
Wyoming returns six players from last season's team, including four veteran competitors and two talented redshirts.
The four returners include:
Kirby Coe-Kirkham, Jared Edeen, Tyler Severin and Bryce Waters.
Redshirt sophomore
Jimmy Dales also returns after enjoying an outstanding amateur season this summer, and redshirt freshman
Patrick Azevedo is back to compete for a spot in the Cowboy lineup.
All four veteran returnees recorded Top 25 finishes in the 2020-21 season. Severin had four Top 25 finishes. Coe-Kirkham and Waters each in the Top 25 of tournaments twice, and Edeen had one Top 25 showing last season.
Newcomers
Cowboy golf welcomes three freshmen to the team this season.
Jaren Calkins is from Lander, Wyo., and won the 2020 Wyoming State Amateur Championship. He won two Class 3A individual state championships and three state team titles at Lander Valley High School.
Aidan Mann's family currently lives in Boulder, Colo., but he played his high school golf at York Community High School in Elmhurst, Ill. He earned All-West Suburban Conference honors both his junior and senior seasons. He also lettered in hockey in high school.
Cade McLaughlin comes to Wyoming from Princeton, N.J. He was a team captain of his hockey and golf teams at The Kent School in Kent, Conn. He won the 2020 AJGA Stan Utley qualifier in Columbia, Mo. He also tied for the title at the 2021 AJGA Hale Irwin Colorado Junior.
Tyler Severin Coming Off Outstanding 2020-21 Season
What a year it was for Cowboy golfer
Tyler Severin a year ago. The native of Johnstown, Colo., posted four Top 25 finishes, including placing 12th at The Prestige at PGA West, eighth at the San Diego Lamkin Classic, 11th at the Cowboy Classic and 25th at the BYU Cougar Classic.
Three Returning Cowboys Have Been U.S. Amateur Qualifiers During Their College Careers
The 2021-22 Wyoming men's golf roster includes three individuals who have all qualified and played in a U.S. Amateur Championship during their careers.
In the summer of 2019,
Bryce Waters tied for the top spot in the
U.S. Amateur qualifier in Odessa, Texas. Waters went on to play in the 119th U.S. Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C., on Aug. 12-18, 2019.
During the summer of 2021,
Kirby Coe-Kirkham and
Jimmy Dales each qualified for and played in the U.S. Amateur. Coe-Kirkham won the U.S. Amateur Qualifier held at Jacoby Golf Course in Laramie, Wyo., on July 6. Dales captured medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier hosted at the Walnut Creek Country Club in South Lyon, Mich., on July 19. The 121st edition of the U.S. Amateur was played at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., and Longue Vue Club in Verona, Pa., Aug. 9-15.
