MARICOPA, Ariz. (April 5, 2021) – Senior
Caitlyn Skavdahl led the Wyoming golf team as it opened up the 13
th annual Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Monday. The tournament is being played at the par-72 6,131-yard AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
After 36 holes, the Cowgirls enters Tuesday in a tie for 12th with a 32-over total score of 608 (309-299). The second round score of 11-over 299 tied Wyoming's season-best.
Skavdahl completed her first round with a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 29th. She followed that up with a season-best 1-over 73 for a two-round total of 3-over, 147 to move up to 16th. Freshman
Jessica Zapf finished her day with a total of 8-over 152 which included a career-best even par-72 in the second round. Playing as an individual, fellow freshman
Morgan Ryan shot a season-best 4-over 76 in the opening round and followed it up with a 5-over 77 to card a two round total of 9-over 153.
Graduate
Erin Sargent turned in a pair of 5-over 77 rounds to sit in a tie for 67
th (10-over, 154). Sophomore
Samantha Hui finished her day with a pair of 6-over 78 for her two round total of 12-over 156. Junior
Michelle Nguyen, competing as an individual, had a two-round total of 13-over 157. The final Cowgirl in action was sophomore
Cristiana Ciasca with an opening round of 9-over, 81, followed up by a season-best 5-over, 77.
Grand Canyon leads the field at 5-under (571), followed by South Dakota State at 2-under (574) and New Mexico State with a 3-over 579. Gonzaga sits in fourth with a two round total 9-over, 585, and Nevada rounds out the top five with a 13-over, 589. CSU Fullerton's Brittany Shin is in first with a 6-under, 138. Followed closely by Grand Canyons's Tagiralani Luafalealo and SDSU's Teresa Toscano at 5-under, 139.
Wyoming will tee off for the tournament's final round tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. MT. in a shotgun start.
