ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (April 11, 2021) – The Wyoming golf team opened up the play at the Branch Law Firm-Dick McGuire Invite on Sunday in Albuquerque. The tournament is taking place at the Par-72, 6,317 yard Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico.
"We had a very difficult time on the greens and had a tough finish in the first round," head coach
Josey Stender said. "Although we rallied in the second round, there is little room for error in this highly competitive field. Caitlyn's second round was excellent and I'm very proud of her. She scrambled and played confident."
Senior
Caitlyn Skavdahl was the low Cowgirl on the day. She shot an 8-over 152 after 36 holes to sit in a tie for 48
th. She was followed by sophomore
Cristiana Ciasca, who is playing as an individual, with a 9-over two round total of 153.
Fellow sophomore
Samantha Hui recorded a first round 8-over 80 followed up by a four-over 76 to tally a 12-over 156. Freshmen
Morgan Ryan and
Jessica Zapf finished in a tie with scores of 15-over 159 to complete their day. The final Cowgirl in action was graduate
Erin Sargent who posted a mark of 18-over for a two round total of 162.
Denver and Pepperdine lead the field at 1-over (577) followed by Washington at 2-over (578). New Mexico State and Kansas State are 4-over (580) to close out the top five. Niamh McSherry is the top individual with a 7-unver 137 two round score.
The tournament will wrap up tomorrow with the final 18-holes. It's set to begin at 7:30 a.m. MT.
