Third Round of Lady Thunderbird Invite Canceled Due to Weather

UW finishes in a tie for seventh place

ST. GEORGE, Utah (March 11, 2021) – Due to bad weather in the St. George area, the third and final round of the 2021 Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational has been canceled. The final team and individual scores through the first two rounds will determine the winners.
 
Through 36 holes, the Cowgirls finished in a tie for seventh place with Seattle after posting a 38-over 614. UW opened up the day with a season-best 11-over 299 first round to sit in fourth. The second round brought a 27-over 315 which puts them in a tie for seventh headed into tomorrow.
 
Senior Caitlyn Skavdahl was in a tie for 15th with an eight-over total of 152. She started off the day shooting a one-over round of 73 to tie for 12th, which included a hole in one on the 14th . In the second round, she shot a seven over 79.  Erin Sargent also tied for 15th with her teammate after recording an opening round of two-over 74 followed up by a six-over 78.  
 
Sophomore Samantha Hui posted a six-over 78 to begin her day but followed it up with season-best three-over 75. She has a two round total of nine over 153 to sit in 20th. Freshman Jessica Zapf turned in a career-best first round score of two-over 74 and followed that up with an 11-over 83 for a two round total of 157. She currently sits in a tie for 47th. Sophomore Cristiana Ciasca finished up her two rounds of the tournament with a score of 33-over 177.
 
Playing as an individual, freshman Morgan Ryan had two solid rounds on the day for a two round total of nine-over 153. Her best round was a four-over 76. Junior Michelle Nguyen shot 12-over 84 followed by a 14-over 86 to shoot a combined score of 26-over 170.
 
South Dakota State led the field at 2-over (578), followed by Oral Roberts at 24-over (600) and Cal Baptist closely behind at 26-over (602). Illinois State was fourth with a 29-over 605 and Weber State rounds out the top five at 31-over 607. The top individual was Teresa Toscano of South Dakota State with a two-round score of -13 (131).
 
Wyoming is scheduled to return to play on Monday, March 15, at the BYU Spring Classic. It is set up on the 6,060 yard, par-72 Sand Hollow Course in St. George. The 54-hole event is slated for an 8:30 a.m. MT shotgun start.
