Caitlyn Skavdahl knocked in a hole in one on the par four 14
th to highlight the day after the first two rounds of the 2021 Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invite on Thursday.
After 36 holes, the Cowgirls are in a tie for seventh place with a 38-over 614. UW opened up the day with a season-best 11-over 299 first round to sit in fourth. The second round brought a 27-over 315 which puts them in a tie for seventh headed into tomorrow.
"We had a pretty up and down day as a team," head coach
Josey Stender said. "Caitlyn's albatross (double eagle) on 14 was a real moment changer for her and so exciting. Sam (Hui) played well and really rallied after a rough start. We are very capable of scoring well out here so we need to stick with an aggressive game plan."
Skavdahl was one of the low Cowgirls on the day with an eight-over total of 152 to sit in a tie for 15th. She started off the day shooting a one-over round of 73 to tie for 12th. In the second round, she shot a seven over 79. Graduate
Erin Sargent is also tied for 15
th with her teammate after recording an opening round of two-over 74 followed up by a six-over 78.
Sophomore
Samantha Hui posted a six-over 78 to begin her day but followed it up with season-best three-over 75. She has a two round total of nine over 153 to sit in 20
th. Freshman
Jessica Zapf turned in a career-best first round score of two-over 74 and followed that up with an 11-over 83 for a two round total of 157. She currently sits in a tie for 47th. Sophomore
Cristiana Ciasca finished up her two rounds of the tournament with a score of 33-over 177.
Playing as an individual, freshman
Morgan Ryan had two solid rounds on the day for a two round total of nine-over 153. Her best round was a four-over 76. Junior
Michelle Nguyen shot 12-over 84 followed by a 14-over 86 to shoot a combined score of 26-over 170.
South Dakota State leads the field at 2-over (578), followed by Oral Roberts at 24-over (600) and Cal Baptist closely behind at 26-over (602). Illinois State sits in fourth with a 29-over 605 and Weber State rounds out the top five at 31-over 607.
The tournament is set up on the 5,914-yard, par-72 course at the Sundbrook Golf Club (Pointe & Blackrock). Play is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. MT on Thursday with the final 18 holes in a shotgun start.
