Chula Vista, Calif. (March 10, 2021) -- University of Wyoming golfer Tyler Severin closed out an outstanding tournament Wednesday, shooting a round of even par 72 to tie for eighth place out of 120 collegiate golfers at the Lamkin San Diego Classic.  Severin finished with a 54-hole total of 216 (Even) for the week and was one of only 10 players to finish at even par or under par for the tournament.
 
Severin's final round saw him birdey four holes, par 11, bogey two and double bogey one for his even par 72.  He began the tournament with a round of 74 (+2) on Monday, followed by a 70 (-2) round on Tuesday and then finished with his 72 (Even) round on Wednesday.
 
It was Severin's second Top 15 finish in the first three tournaments of the 2021 season.  He placed 12th at The Prestige in La Quinta, Calif., earlier this season.  The Johnstown, Colo., native now has seven career Top 25 tournament finishes.
 
As a team, Wyoming maintained its spot at 15th place in the 20-team San Diego Classic field.  The Pokes concluded the tournament with a final round of 301 (+13) on Wednesday and posted a three-round total of 906 (+42).
 
UCLA won the team competition with a 54-hole total of 868 (+4).  The Bruins' margin of victory was six strokes over second place Nevada, who shot an 874 (+10).  The individual title was won by Devon Bling of UCLA.  Bling's 212 (-4) total was one shot better than Ryan Bisharat of San Diego, who posted a 213 (-3).
 
Wyoming junior Carl Underwood was the Cowboys' second top finisher, tying for 33rd at 222 (+6).  Sophomore Kirby Coe-Kirkham finished in a tie for 80th at 232 (+16).  Fellow sophomore Jared Edeen closed out the tournament at 236 (+20) to tie for 94th, and senior Dan Starzkinski posted a final score of 239 (+23) and tied for 104th.
 
The Lamkin San Diego Classic was played at the San Diego Country Club and was hosted by San Diego State.  The course measured 7,033 yards and played to a par of 72.
 
Wyoming's next scheduled tournament is the Arizona N.I.T., which will be hosted by the University of Arizona on March 20 and 21 in Tucson, Ariz.
