SPRINGVILLE, Utah (Sept. 10, 2019) – Sophomore Cristiana Ciasca used a final-round 3-under (68) to claim medalist honors at the Hobble Creek Classic on Tuesday at the Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah. She and Jocelyn Chee of California Baptist shared the honor. As a team, the Cowgirls recorded rounds of 299 (+15), 294 (+10) and a school best 290 (+6) in the final round to finish the tournament at 883 (+31).

"I'm thrilled for Cristiana and couldn't be more proud of the work she has put in to earn this victory," head coach Josey Stender said. "The team played confident and calculated all day. To finish with the low round of the day and within five shots of the win says a lot about their determination."

To follow her opening and second round scores of 69 (-2) and 76 (+5), Ciasca recorded a career-best 68 (-3) to move up from seventh place to the top spot on Tuesday. She birdied the 16th and 17th while closing out her round with an eagle to finish with a three-round 213 (E). The score is the third lowest individual event score in Cowgirl history.

The most recent Cowgirl golf to take medalist honors at a 54-hole tournament was Gabrielle Gibson at the 2017 FIU Pat Bradley. Gibson shot a 211 (-5) to take the individual conference title. This is the first tournament crown of her career for Ciasca and her first finish inside the top ten.

Senior Erin Sargent saved her best round for the last day as she posted 71 (E).  After rounds of 75 (+4) and 74 (+3) on Monday, she finished tied for 15th with a 220 (+7). Sophomore Michelle Nguyen carded a final round 75 (+4) and a total 225 (+12) to place 34th

Sophomore Samantha Hui closed out the tournament with a 75 (+4) and had a three-day total of 229 (+16). Junior Caitlyn Skavdahl wrapped up the day with a 79 (+8) and a three-day total of 236 (+23).

Individually, freshman Morgan Ryan turned in an 88 (+17) in her first tournament with a total of 240 (+27) followed by fellow freshman Jessica Zapf carding a career-best 76 (+5).

Cal State Fullerton took home the team title with an 878 (+26), followed by New Mexico State (879, +27) in second, Northern Arizona (880, +28) in third and fourth-place Cal Poly (882, +30). The Cowgirls (+31, 883) rounded out the top five on the team scoreboard.

Wyoming will return to the course, Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 23-24 for the CSU Ram Fall Classic in Ft. Collins.
