Palm Desert, Calif. (Feb. 24, 2019) -- The Wyoming Cowboys shot a final round 291 (+3) at their own Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday to place 11th out of 21 teams. It was Wyoming's lowest round of the tournament,and it's most consistent round. The four individuals that counted toward the team shot rounds of 72 (Even), 73 (+1), 73 (+1) and 73 (+1).
The Cowboys finished the tournament with a three-round score of 891 (+27). Wyoming's top individual finishers were senior
John Murdock and sophomore
Carl Underwood, who both finished with 54-hole totals of 221 (+5) to tie for 29th. Junior
Dan Starzinski completed the three rounds at 226 (+10), to tie for 62nd. Freshman
Tyler Severin talled a 228 (+12) to tie for 72nd, and his fellow freshman
Kirby Coe-Kirkham concluded the tournament at 235 (+19) to tie for 93rd. Redshirt freshman
Jared Edeen and freshman
JImmy Dales competed as individuals and tied for 72nd and 93rd, respectively, shooting totals of 228 (+12) and 235 (+19).
The 2019 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate team title was won by Texas Tech, who captured the team title in a comeback effort that went down to the final hole of the tournament before they captured a one-stroke victory over Boise State. The Red Raiders of Texas Tech shot an 858 (-6), while the Boise State Broncos ended the tournament at 859 (-5). Skyler Eubank of Boise State won individual medalist honors, firing a three-day total of 207 (-9). Harry Hillier of Kansas and Adam Blomme of Texas Tech tied for second at 209 (-7). Hillier won the tiebreaker by virtue of shooting the lower final round of 68, compared to Blomme's final round of 70.
"I was pleased with the way we finished the tournament, shooting our lowest round of the week," said
Joe Jensen, UW Director of Golf. "We came into this tournament wanting to improve as we progressed through the rounds, and we did that on Sunday. This tournament featured several ranked teams, and the Classic Club is a championship-level golf course, so this was certainly a challenging first event for the start of our spring season. We want to thank all the teams that participated in our tournament this year, and we thank the people at the Classic Club for hosting us."
The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate was hosted by the University of Wyoming at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The Classic Club measured 7,305 yards and played to a par of 72.
