Maricopa, Ariz. (Jan. 4, 2019) --  The Wyoming Cowboy men's golf team had two individuals place in the Top 11 of the 2019 Saguaro Amateur in Maricopa, Ariz., on Friday.  True freshman Tyler Severin finished with a final 54-hole score of 213 (-3) to tie for fourth place, and junior Dan Starzinski tied for 11th place in the field of 112 amateur golfers with a final three-round total of 215 (-1).
     
Severin fired a final round of two-under par 70 to move up six spots on Friday, from 10th place heading into the final round to a fourth-place finish.  Starzinski entered the final round tied for second.  He shot a four-over par 76 on Friday to finish in 11th place.
     
A freshman from Johnstown, Colo., Severin played consistently in all three rounds.  He opened the tournament with a round of 70 (-3), followed by a 73 (+1) and closed with another round of 70 (-2) for his 213 total.  Starzinski was tied for the tournament lead after Day 1, firing an opening round 68 (-4).  He was in a tie for second after Day 2, with a 36-hole total of 139 (-5).  Friday saw the junior from Phoenix, Ariz, finish with a 76 (+4) to tie for 11th at 215 (-1).
     
Senior John Murdock from Laramie, Wyo., was the third Cowboy to place in the top half of the field.  Murdock concluded the tournament with a 54-hole total of 221 (+5) to tie for 44th place  He shot rounds of 74 (+2), 71 (-1) and 76 (+4).
     
All eight members of the 2018-19 Cowboy golf team played in the amateur event.  While not a college tournament, the Saguaro Amateur provided the Cowboys an opportunity to play against many top college amateurs in between their official fall and spring college tournament schedules.
     
The three-day, 54-hole event was played at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, which played to a par of 72.
