FARGO, N.D. (January 19, 2019) – In their first meet since December 7, 2018, the Wyoming track & field teams collected seven event titles and 17 total top-three finishes at the NDSU Team Challenge at the Shelly Ellid Indoor Track and Field Facility in Fargo, N.D.
"I thought the effort and focus was there today," said head coach
Bryan Berryhill. "This was our first meet since winter break, and we had some really good individual performances and some that we can improve on. I'm positive as we go through the season and get back in our standard work routine that we will continue to progress as a team."
For the Cowgirls, senior
Jerayah Davis claimed the sprint double with victories in both the 60 meter dash and the 200m dash with times of 7.37 and 24.62, respectively. She finished nearly half of a second ahead of second place in the 60m dash.
Senior
Ja'la Henderson won her second-straight long jump title, this time leaping 19 feet, 2.5 inches. Davis took second with a jump of 18-10.75. Henderson wasn't done, as she outclassed the triple jump field with season-best mark of 42-4, nearly three feet ahead of second place. Freshman
Aumni Ashby joined her on the podium with a third-place finish with a jump of 39-2.5.
Freshman
Zia Macdermid took second in the mile run with a time of 5:06.02, just ahead of teammate
Kacey Doner who finished in 5:06.59 to take third.
Senior
Emelda Malm-Annan took fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 61 feet to pace the Cowgirl throwers.
The Cowboys had nine top-three finishes, highlighted by senior
Bryce Ailshie taking first in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.23. Junior
Jace Marx took second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.03, and he found the podium again in the 200m dash, placing third with a time of 22.25.
Sophomore
William Nolan had another spectacular day in the horizontal jumps. He claimed the long jump title, his second win in that event this season, with a leap of 23-6, finishing more than four inches ahead of second place. Nolan then took the top spot on the triple jump podium, finishing first with a leap of 48-1.75, a foot ahead of second place.

Brandon McGuire and Ailshie placed third with a time of 3:21.86.
Senior
Michael Downey placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:12.79, and junior
Paul Roberts made his Wyoming debut on the track with a second-place finish in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:21.08. Roberts is coming off an All-American cross country campaign after transferring to UW from CSU-Pueblo. Sophomore
Christopher Henry also earned a podium spot by finishing third in 8:21.52, a personal best time from the Laramie native.
All three of the Cowboy weight throwers cleared 60 feet, as junior
Hap Frketich took fourth with a mark of 62-1.75, junior
Eric McArthur placed fifth with a personal-best throw of 61-10.5 and sophomore
Kirk Unland finished sixth with a toss of 60-5.25.
In the team scoring, both squads placed third behind North Dakota State and Northern Iowa. The Cowboys amassed 71 points, and the Cowgirls earned 74 points.

The track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26, when they host the Powder River Dual in Gillette, Wyo.
