TUCSON (March 24, 2018) – The University of Wyoming women's golf team was back on the course at the MountainView Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday. The Cowgirls shot a 315 (+27) during the second round and currently have a 624 (+48) after the first 36 holes. UW is sitting 15th in the team standings with the final 18 to play on Sunday morning.
"We played great on the first nine in really tough conditions," Cowgirl head coach
Josey Stender said. "The second nine was a stretch of holes into a difficult wind, which clearly hurt us. I think all teams would agree that if you played earlier in the day it was much different than later. I'm happy with the way a few of the girls were able to come back and make necessary shots in the difficult conditions. But there is no doubt the course played tough today. Tomorrow is a shotgun start so that'll be more normal for us. We have a lot of fight in us and we have nothing to lose, so we'll take that into tomorrow and hopefully be more consistent."
Redshirt freshman
Caitlyn Skavdahl led the Brown and Gold on Saturday. The Casper native shaved off six strokes from her score yesterday to jump nine spots in the individual rankings. Skavdahl shot a 77 (+5) on Saturday and is sitting tied for 67th with a 160 (+16).
Senior
Gabrielle Gibson is currently the highest in the individual rankings for UW through the first two rounds. She posted a 78 (+6) during the middle round and currently is tied for 47th with a 154 (+10) as the final round is set to commence tomorrow.
Junior
Megan Knadler is three shots back of Gibson with a two-day total 157 (+13) after she recorded an 81 (+9) on Saturday. Sophomore
Erin Sargent joined Skavdahl as the only Cowgirls with a better round during the second day. Sargent shot a 79 (+7) and is tied for 63rd with a two-round mark of 159 (+15).
Rounding out the Cowgirls is junior
Sarah Hankins. She posted a second round 100 (+28) and has a total of 177 (+33) heading into to tomorrow's final round.
Kansas has the team lead with the final round remaining. The Jayhawks shot a 296 (+8) on Saturday and have a two-round total 589 (+13). KU's Yi-Tsen Chou and San Jose State's Abegail Arevalo are holding the top spot individually with a 143 (-1) through two rounds.
