Cowgirls Return to Links for Battle at the Rock

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 9, 2018) – With the start of the spring semester well underway on the beautiful campus of the University of Wyoming, the Cowgirl golf team is gearing up for its first competition of the spring season. UW returns to the links, Feb. 12-13, as it travels to the Inland Empire of Riverside, Calif., for the Battle at the Rock.

Next on the Tee
Kicking off the time of the year during which the weather becomes warmer and plants revive, the 14-team tournament will take place at the Oak Quarry Golf Course. It features an 18-hole, 6079-yard, par 72 championship course masterfully designed by Dr. Gil Morgan/Schmidt Curley Designs.
 
Outlining the tournament schedule, the teams will play 36 holes on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. MT, before closing out the tournament on Tuesday with 18 holes at 8:56 a.m. Live results can be found using the link above.
 
Besides UW, the tournament field includes: Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Nevada, San Francisco, Stetson, UC Davis and host UC Riverside.

Weather Forecast
The weather channel predicts Riverside to feature intervals of clouds and sunshine throughout Monday and Tuesday. Monday's high will be 65 degrees, as Tuesday's is 66 degrees. Both days currently have a 20 percent chance for precipitation with humidity to be in between 50 and 55 percent.
 
Cowgirl Lineup
The Cowgirls will feature a lineup of Gabrielle Gibson, Erin Sargent, Megan Knadler, Sarah Hankins and Caitlyn Skavdahl. Kaylee Knadler and Jordan Remley will don the Brown and Gold as individuals in Riverside.
  
Taking Charge
Heading into the springs season, Gibson has led the team in three separate tournaments this year. She has a team-best 72.8 scoring average, and is followed by Sargent at 75.1. Hankins averages 77.6 after playing in all 12 rounds during the fall. Furthermore, Kaylee Knadler, who played in nine rounds also has a 77.6 scoring average.
 
Last Time Out
Gibson used a final-round 70 (-2) to claim medalist honors at the 40th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational on Oct. 23 at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club in Sarasota, Fla. As a team, the Cowgirls recorded rounds of 305 (+17) and 294 (+6) to finish the tournament at 904 (+40), which was good for ninth-place in the 15-team field. It was also their third top-ten team finish of the fall. With the victory, Gibson became the first Cowgirl to win an event since Jonelle Martinez at the 2009 Mountain West Championships.
 
Last Year at Battle at the Rock
After notching a final-round 74 (+2), Knadler tied for fifth and paced the squad with a total score of 224 (+8) at the 2017 Battle at the Rock. It became the first top-five finish of her career and third within the top-ten. UW shot a three-round score of 926 (+62), after posting a final round mark of 309 (+21). Of the 16 total teams participating, Wyoming brought home a ninth-place finish at the Oak Quarry Golf Club. 
 
Looking Ahead
After the Battle at the Rock, the Cowgirls will next compete at the Rebel Beach in Las Vegas, Feb. 26-27.
