ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sophomore
Daniel Hintz added to the growing list of Cowboy distance athletes to make their way onto UW all-time top 10 lists this season with a big performance in the mile at the Husky Classic, headlining a number of solid times and marks for the Pokes as they wrapped up competition at two big meets on Saturday. While Hintz stole the show in Seattle, Junior
Ja'la Henderson recorded yet another big mark and high finish in the women's triple jump to lead the way for Wyoming in Albuquerque, N.M., at the Don Kirby Invitational.
"Overall, we had some really good things happen," UW head coach
Bryan Berryhill said Saturday. "I think we had some good marks across the board in all event areas. We also found some things we have to work on over the next two weeks before we go back to Albuquerque for the conference championships."
Hintz, a native of Tauranga, New Zealand, crossed the finish line a raw time of 4 minutes, 6.09 seconds to slide past teammate
Ricky Faure into the No. 6 spot on the UW all-time list for the men's mile. Clocking a negative split to win his heat of 10 runners, Hintz left his previous personal best of 4:10.84 in the dust. He finished 33
rd overall in a stacked field of 72 runners that included multiple professional athletes and nine sub-4 minute miles. Hintz was the third Cowboy distance runner to write his name into the UW record books in Seattle, joining
Christopher Henry and
Michael Downey, who broke into the top UW all-time top 10 in the 5,000 meters on Friday.
"It's great to see Dan run a 4:06 outright mile at sea level," Berryhill said. "That was very encouraging. Coach (Scott) Dahlberg has those guys believing in what they can accomplish and it's showing up in the results."
Hintz wasn't the only Cowboy with a good performance in Seattle on Saturday, as junior
Bryce Ailshie took 10
th overall and second among collegiate runners in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:51.59. Faure was 16
th in the talented field of 48, checking in at 1:53.45. Meanwhile, senior

The Cowgirl distance runners also had a great day at both meets. Junior

Henderson continued the momentum of her tremendous 2017-18 indoor season, taking fifth place in a field of 36 women's triple jumpers at Don Kirby with a mark of 41 feet, 9.25 inches. Henderson's mark was nearly two feet better than any Mountain West competitor. On the men's side of the event, freshman
William Nolan placed 12
th with a mark of 47-2.5.
The throwers also saw continued improvement on Saturday, as freshman
Addison Henry again revealed big potential with a personal-best toss of 47-1 to take 10

Hannah Carr placed 15
th, throwing 44-6, while junior Tori Sleep was 23
rd at 41-5.75. Senior
Garrett Lynch launched a season-best toss of 54 feet even to take ninth on the men's side of the event.
"The throwers are getting better each and every week," Berryhill noted. "That's a trend you want to see. Coach (Carrie) Lane is doing a good job getting them to progress nicely going into the conference championships."
Multiple Wyoming athletes narrowly missed qualifications to the semifinals in the sprints and hurdles events at Don Kirby on Saturday. Sophomore
