FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Sept. 17, 2017) – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team combined to tie the lowest team score in one round in program history on the first day of the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Sunday. Sarah Hankins opened the first round of the tournament with a 71 (-1), at the 6,348 yard, par 72 Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins.
The Cowgirls also shot a 291 (+3) during the final round of the Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational on Sept. 30, 2008.
"This was a great solid start for us amongst a very competitive field," Cowgirl head coach
Josey Stender said. "Overall, we consistently put ourselves in great positions off the tee that allowed us be aggressive on our approach shots."
A native of Thornton, Colo., Hankins will enter the second round tied seventh overall. She netted birdies on No. 1, No. 10, No. 11 and carded her fourth on No. 12 to lead the Brown and Gold in its first round of the 2017-18 season.
Wyoming's lone senior led the team and carded five birdies, three on the back nine, during the day on way to score a 73 (+1).
Gabrielle Gibson sits tied 16th overall heading into the second round of play. Sophomore
Erin Sargent is also tied with Gibson with a day-one 73 (+1), after totaling two birdies on Sunday.
Playing as an individual, redshirt sophomore
Kaylee Knadler closed out her first round of play since the 2016 Mountain West Championship with a birdie to bring her first-round total to 73 (+1) and also sit tied with Gibson and Sargent.

Caitlyn Skavdahl recorded four birdies on the front nine to propel her to a 74 (+2) and hold a share of 31st overall in her first collegiate round. Junior
Megan Knadler is right with Skavdahl sitting tied for 31st after the first round of play, while freshman
Jordan Remley opened the tournament with a 79 (+7) in Fort Collins.
UC Irvine holds the top team spot after the first round with a 285 (-3), with Indiana two shots off at 287 (-1). UC Irvine's Avery French is atop the individual leaderboard with a 67 (-5).
