The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams once again paired success in the pool with achievements in the classroom as the College Swimming Coaches Association of America highlights the Cowboy and Cowgirl programs in their annual All-America Team selections on Wednesday. Additionally, UW placed 13 individuals on the Scholar All-America team.
"Coach
Dave Denniston takes over an exceptional program at Wyoming both in and out of the pool," CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield said about Wyoming's success. "We are very fortunate to have schools like Wyoming and people like President Laurie Nichols and Director of Athletics
Tom Burman who support these exceptional student-athletes."
The Cowgirls had a very impressive Team GPA of 3.29 for the spring semester. The Cowboys also had success in the classroom with a Team GPA of 3.21.
"I think success outside the pool is something we take pride in here at Wyoming, as we love our student-athletes being well rounded," Denniston said. "Their success in the water speaks for itself, but what they do in the classroom with the majors they have is second to none. Our Office of Academic Support has done a great job with the help and resources given to our student-athletes to succeed in the classroom."
For the first time in the 95-year history of the CSCAA more than 700 teams have received Scholar All-America recognition. In total, 720 teams, representing 443 institutions achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Part of the reason for the increase in award-winning teams is the overall growth of the sport. The number of men's and women's institutions sponsoring swimming and diving is at a ten-year high.
The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected a record 997 swimmers and divers for its Scholar All-America team. The selections recognize students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
