CHANDLER, Ariz. – Wyoming men's golf wrapped up the Cowboy Classic on Tuesday
at the Whirlwind Golf Course, finishing with a team score of 870 (+6) to place eighth. UC Santa
Barbara secured the team title with a final score of 843 (-21), 11 strokes
ahead of second-place Kansas. Zach Smith of Santa Barbara earned the individual
title, posting a 206 (-10) after a 67 (-5) in today's round.
The Cowboys tallied a 286 (-2) in
their final round, as senior Ryan Wallen and junior Drew McCullough both
finished under par. Each shot 71 (-1) with fairly clean cards. Wallen carded
two birdies and one bogey, while McCullough recorded three birdies and two
bogeys. Juniors Glenn Workman and Arron Lickteig scored even-par rounds of 72.
Workman shot three under in his final nine holes and Lickteig shot one under in
his last nine. Sophomore John Murdock finished the day with a 75 (+3).
"Today we played hard, and overall
this gives us some good things to work on going forward," UW head coach Joe
Jensen said. "It's a great facility and a fun event, and I'd like to thank the
staff and the teams who participated. I'm proud of how we finished with our
score today. We'll use this to move forward going into conference championships
next week."
Redshirt-freshman Dan Starzinski
shot the lowest round of the day among UW's three individuals, scoring a 72
(E). Junior Quintin Pope finished with a 75 (+3) and sophomore Cole Bundy carded an 81 (+9).
The Cowboys will return to the
OMNI Tucson National-Catalina Course in Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain West
Championship, running April 21-23.
