Mizzou Invite Results
Columbia, Missouri (Nov. 19, 2016) –
Wyoming swimming and diving concluded
the Mizzou Invite on Friday, with each squad placing third. The Cowgirls
tallied 619 points while the Cowboys finished the evening with 635.5 total
points.
After three days of
competition, the Missouri women claimed victory with 1,332 points, followed by
Illinois with 637 points and the Cowgirls just behind with 619. On the men's
side, the Tigers also won the invite with a total of 1,355. Drury placed second
with 685 points, just ahead of Wyoming with 635.5.
"All in all, I thought
it was a pretty good weekend and we showed a lot of improvement," UW head coach
Tom Johnson said. "We had great performances in the women's mile race. Eric Oleson had a fantastic day. Kelly Sheldon and Abby Sullivan were terrific in
the 200 backstroke final. Kyle White keeps improving and had a very nice swim
in the 100 freestyle. Our divers were great once again."
Freshman Daniela Luna Rocha kicked off the Cowgirls' evening with a second-place finish in the mile
race, clocking in at 16:48.78, the third-best time in Wyoming history. Sullivan
and Sheldon placed sixth and seventh in the 200 backstroke, with times of
1:58.94 and 2:00.29, respectively. Junior Maria Harutjunjan earned second in
the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.85, more than three seconds faster
than her qualifying time. Freshman Karla Contreras placed third in her first
platform dive event as a Cowgirl with a score of 238.65.
Oleson began the day
for the Cowboys, placing fourth in the men's mile race in 15:42.75. Senior Gabe Rooker and sophomore Liam Holt logged times of 1:57.45 and 1:58.6 in the 200
breaststroke for third and fourth place finishes. Jacob Porter logged a
personal-best time of 1:48.48 in the 200 butterfly to finish sixth. Freshman Scotia Mullin had a standout performance in his first platform dive event for
Wyoming, scoring a 384.75 for a second-place finish.
Wyoming swimming and diving will
be back in action Dec. 1 and 2 at the Colorado Mesa Invite in Grand Junction,
Colo.
