HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (Oct. 9, 2016) -- The University of Wyoming women's golf team concluded its
fall season at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon, tying for
14th in the 18-team field. The Cowgirls posted a 304 (+16) on the final 18
holes at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club to finish with a 54-hole team score of
910 (+46).
"Unfortunately, today we just couldn't get anything to drop
for us," Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender said. "I was proud of Gabrielle
(Gibson) and Megan (Knadler) to rally and hang in there throughout the day.
This fall has been exciting and confidence building for the team and individuals.
We had our best team scoring average and of the travel team, each player significantly
contributed at each event. I am looking forward to a productive off-season for
this group."
Senior Mackenzie Barrie led the Cowgirls throughout the
three-day tournament. Barrie carded a 77 (+5) on the final 18 holes to finish
with a total of 223 (+7). The senior tied for 41st in the 102-golfer field and
made par on 13 holes in the third round.
Playing as an individual, junior Klara Castillo posted
Wyoming's best round on Sunday. She finished with a 228 (+12) after carding a
73 (+1) during the final round. During the third round, Castillo recorded
birdies on holes five, eight and 14, in addition to making par on 11 holes to
complete the tournament.
Junior Gabrielle Gibson and sophomore Megan Knadler each
posted the second-best rounds for UW on Sunday. They recorded a final-round 75
(+3) for the Brown and Gold. Gibson tied for 72nd with a three-round total of
230 (+14), while Knadler had a share of 96th with a 242 (+26). Freshman Erin Sargent,
who tied for 65th, ended the tournament the same way she started for Wyoming.
Sargent posted a 77 (+5) during the final round and finished with a 54-hole
total of 229 (+13). Redshirt sophomore Sarah Hankins closed out the tournament
with an 82 (+10). She took 88th place with a 235 (+19).
Pepperdine won the team race (-10; 854), followed by Denver
(-6; 858) in second and Kentucky (+7; 871) in third. Sophie Newlove of Denver
took home the individual crown. She fired a 210 (-6) during the three-day
tournament.
