2021-22: Thompson played a key role off the bench for the Pokes. He played in all 34 games with three starts. He averaged 2.7 points per game and 1.5 rebounds. He shot 37 percent from behind the arc with 25 on the season. He scored in double-figures twice and scored a season-high 15 points against Hastings College. He hit a season high five threes in the game. He hit two or more three pointers off the bench six times.
2020-21: Thompson appeared in 24 games for the Cowboys with 18 starts. He averaged seven points per game to go along with 3.8 rebounds per night. He also added 21 assists on the season and 12 blocks. He shot 43 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the arc with 39 makes on the season. He recorded a season-high 25 points in the season opener against Mississippi Valley State. He scored in double-figures six times on the season. He recorded a career-high 11 rebounds against Utah State and added 11 points for his first career double-double on March 4, 2021. He tied a career-high with seven three pointers in the conference opener against Fresno State. He went 7-of-8 from behind the arc in that game against the Bulldogs. He recorded a career-high three steals against New Mexico on Feb. 21.
2019-20: Thompson was a key part of the Cowboys during his sophomore season. He appeared in 26 games during the campaign with 23 starts. He averaged 8.2 points per game to rank tied for third on the team. He also added 4.1 rebounds per game to rank second on the Cowboys. He also ranked second on the team averaging 0.5 blocks per game. He shot 40 percent from the field for the season and 30 percent from behind the arc. He scored in double-figures in eight contests last season including the final two games of the MW Tournament. He scored a season-high 22 points for the Pokes in a win over Louisiana. He also added 17 points three times against; Air Force, Utah Valley and Utah State. He hit a season-high four three-pointers three times against; Utah State, Louisiana and Nevada. He grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against Louisiana recording his first career-double-double.
2018-19: Thompson had an impressive season as a redshirt freshman season for the Cowboys. He played in 27 games with 22 starts. He averaged 8.8 per game, 2.9 rebounds per game. He shot 42.7 percent from the field and 38 percent from behind the arc. He finished the season with 39 three pointers. Thompson also gets it done from the free throw line shooting 71 percent. He went 7-of-8 from the three point line against ETSU on Dec. 21. He hit seven three pointers in a row in that contest, as he finished the game with a career-high 25 points. . He scored all 25 of his points in the second half and scored those 25 points in 19 minutes of play. He scored in double-figures in 10 games in his first season of action and opened the season in double-figures in five of his first six games.
2017-18: Thompson redshirted last season with the Cowboys and was a valubale members of the scout team.
High School: Thompson, a 6-10, 225-pound forward played for head coach Will Gray at Pine Bluffs High School. He was rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and a three-star recruit from Rivals and 247 Sports. This past summer Thompson along with some of the nation’s top recruits participated in the National Basketball Players Association's Top 100 Camp. He also received offers from Colorado and Creighton among others.
As a junior, Thompson averaged a double-double with 20 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He also was solid on the defensive end of the floor averaging 3.2 blocks per game, which led the state. He led the Pine Bluffs Hornets to the Wyoming Class 2A state championship.
He was named the 2016 Male Prep Athlete of the year by Cheyenne Tribune Eagle. He was also named the 2014-15 Casper Star Tribune Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
