MARICOPA, Ariz. – Kiley Reisner and the Wyoming women's golf team got off to a strong start at the Cowgirl Classic during the first two rounds Tuesday on the par-72, 6,196-yard AK Chin Southern Dunes GC.
 
Reisner, who won the individual trophy at the Thunderbird Classic last month in St. George, Utah, is fifth on the individual leaderboard at 5-under par after shooting 70 in the first round and 69 in the second round. The freshman carded nine birdies and four bogeys during the 36-hole grind.
 
The Cowgirls are tied for eighth with Santa Clara at +10, one shot behind seventh-place Boise State and only 10 shots behind second-place BYU. No. 22 Iowa State (-13), the reigning champion, is 13 shots clear of the Cougars entering Wednesday's final round.

"Very solid day and I'm so proud of the team effort as a whole to be in good position after day one," UW head coach Josey Stender said.
 
UW's Meghan Vogt is tied for 12^th at even par. Emerson Purcell (+6) is tied for 52^nd and Elle Higgins (+9) and Kira Reisner (+9) are tied for 73^rd with 18 holes remaining.
 
Iowa State's Nichakorn Pinprayoon (-10) has a one-shot lead over Arizona State's Kate Dillon (-9) for the individual trophy.

"Kiley and Meg played together and had confident, positive energy that carried over into their play," Stender said. "The course is playing much different than in years past and I thought we adjusted very well with our game plan. Our goal (in the final round) is to continue to stay present and disciplined in each shot."
