PALM DESERT, Calif. – Cowgirl golf opened the three-day Mountain Classic Matchplay event with a 3-1-1 loss to Montana State on Monday at The Classic Club.
Senior
Meghan Vogt birdied holes No. 14 and No. 16 to close out Maddie Montoya, 3&2, for Wyoming's win.
Cowgirl freshman
Kiley Reisner birdied No. 18 while Lauren Greeny bogeyed the final hole for a two-shot wing that tied the match.
The Bobcats won the other three matches to avenge last year's 3-2 loss to the Cowgirls in the event co-hosted by UW and Boise State.
"Today was a tough fought close match against a really strong team," UW head coach
Josey Stender said. "We battled until the last few holes and had a few breaks really shift the match right at the end. Meg and Kiley played resilient, steady golf throughout their matches."
In the other pairings, Utah Valley defeated Boise State, Nevada defeated Gonzaga and Washington State defeated Weber State.
UW will be paired with Weber State for Tuesday's round.
