Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowgirls fell behind Mountain West regular season champion San Diego State early Saturday in a 70-51 road loss to the Aztecs. SDSU capitalized on Cowgirl turnovers to build a first half advantage that UW could not come back from in the second half.

The Cowgirls got the first basket of the game before San Diego State scored the next four to take an early lead as things were underway Saturday. From there, the two teams traded the lead back-and-forth as Wyoming held an 8-6 advantage at the first media timeout. After the timeout, Jane Rumpf banked in a 3-pointer for the second time in the first quarter before SDSU responded with the next 14 to regain the lead and took a 20-11 advantage into the second quarter.

Wyoming's turnover struggles continued to begin the second as the Aztecs' run ballooned even larger. The Cowgirls trailed 29-17 at the media timeout. The rest of the frame was controlled by San Diego State, especially the final half-minute as it ended the frame on a quick 8-0 run. UW committed 14 first half turnovers as the SDSU lead was 42-21 at halftime.

The third quarter was a struggle to begin with offensively for the Cowgirls before a 7-0 run from Wyoming got the deficit down to 47-28 before the first media timeout of the second half. That run jumpstarted the Cowgirl offense in the second half. UW continued to play hard in the frame and started to cut down on the number of turnovers. Henna Sandvik, Madi Symons and Rumpf provided a lot of the offense in the third as the Cowgirls trailed 55-39 going to the fourth quarter as they ended the frame on a 7-0 run as well.

A pair of deep 3-pointers and three at the free-throw line from Rumpf got things going in the fourth quarter as Wyoming was within just seven points, 55-48 with 7:52 left, forcing an SDSU timeout. From there, however, the Aztecs countered back to lift the lead back to 14 points before a Cowgirl timeout with a little over six minutes remaining. The rest of the game was controlled by San Diego State as the Wyoming offense sputtered down the stretch. SDSU closed the game on a 15-3 run after the Cowgirls got to within seven.

Wyoming shot 19-of-52 (37-percent) from the floor and made 6-of-19 from 3-point range. Rumpf made all six of the Cowgirls' 3-pointers in the loss. San Diego State went 20-for-57 (46-percent) and made 9-of-22 from beyond-the-arc. Wyoming committed just six second half turnovers, four of which came late when the game was decided.

Rumpf led all scorers with a career-high 27 points while also adding seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. Sandvik was the other Cowgirl in double figures as she added 10. Symons scored eight points off the bench in the loss, all of which came in the third quarter.

Next up is the regular season finale for the Cowgirls as they host Grand Canyon at 5 p.m., Tuesday. Four seniors, Logann Alvar, Aurore Eyango, Malene Pedersen and Henna Sandvik will be honored before the game as part of a doubleheader with the UW men.
