LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 26, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowgirls close their week on the road with their final road contest of the season with a trip to face Mountain West champion San Diego State at 2 p.m., Mountain Time Saturday.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be hard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming is coming off a 69-61 overtime loss at Air Force Saturday. Malene Pedersen and Henna Sandvik led the way with 17 and 16 points, respectively in the loss. Sandvik recorded a career-best five blocks in the contest and drew the main defensive assignment against Air Force's Milahnie Perry, the league's leading scorer. Sandvik held Perry to just nine points on 3-of-13 shooting. Payton Muma recorded a career-high seven assists against the Falcons.
The Cowgirls are second in the league in assists per game this season, averaging 14 a contest. UW has assisted on over 65-percent of its field goals on the year, while four Cowgirls are averaging at least two assists per contest. Muma leads the way with 2.6 assists per contest and has seven games this season with five-plus assists.
UW had nine blocks Wednesday and are now averaging a league-leading 4.1 blocks per game this season. In MW play, the Cowgirls are averaging 4.6 per contest while Jane Rumpf (1.7), Heidur Karlsdottir (1.2) and Sandvik (0.9) rank first, third and fifth, respectively in conference play in blocks per game. Behind the strength of her 17 points Wednesday, Pedersen once again leads the league during conference-only play averaging 16.8 points per game.
Going into the final two games of the regular season, Pedersen is eighth in program history with 1,664 points, ninth with 623 career field goals, 10th with 163 career 3-pointers, is 18th with 255 career free throws and is 16th with 302 career assists. Her 128 career games played are tied for seventh all time.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE
San Diego State has already clinched the Mountain West regular season title and are second in the league in both scoring offense (70.3 PPG) and scoring margin (+10.7). The Aztecs are third in the league in assists, averaging 13.7 a game. SDSU is shooting 43.5-percent from the floor and over 35-percent from 3-point range. Opponents are shooting just 38.2-percent overall and 32-percent from beyond-the-arc. San Diego State is plus-two in rebounding margin and forces its opponents into 14.3 turnovers per game. The Aztecs also shoot 75-percent from the free-throw line as a team.
Naomi Panganiban leads the team in scoring with 13.6 points per game and is second on the team with 56 assists. Nala Williams also scores in double figures, at 10.3 a game and leads the team with 3.9 assists per game and has a team-high 43 steals. Kennedy Lee leads the Aztecs in rebounding with 5.4 a contest. Four Aztecs have made at least 33 3-pointers with Panganiban leading the way with 44 makes. Williams is shooting 37-percent from beyond-the-arc.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST SAN DIEGO STATE
Wyoming leads the all-time series with the Aztecs, 39-33. SDSU won this season's first meeting in Laramie and have won back-to-back contests in the series. The Cowgirls are 12-18 in San Diego all time but have won 3-of-4 as of late in the series on the road.
