PHOENIX – Cowgirl golf finished fourth at the Grand Canyon University Invitational after shooting a collective 298 (+10) in the final round Wednesday.
Wyoming's 54-hole score of 900 (+36) was four shots behind third-place Idaho. Host GCU finished -3 for the tournament, which was 30 shots clear of second-place Northern Illinois.
"Great to see the improvement and positive response on the round today," said UW head coach
Josey Stender, whose team shot 301 in both the first and second rounds Tuesday. "We were close to moving up but unfortunately left too many putts out there."
Freshman
Kiley Reisner finished sixth individually at +3 to lead UW. Junior
Elle Higgins (+8) moved up three spots over the final 18 holes to eighth and senior
Meghan Vogt (+12) moved up two spots to 13
th place.
Sophie Spiva, playing as an individual, posted the Cowgirls' best score on Wednesday with an even par 72.
"Overall, a solid event and top 10 (finishes) for Kiley and Elle," Stender said. "Our goal is to continue to get incrementally better in each round and each event. We have a quick turnaround before our next event so our focus will definitely be on short game and recovery."
UW will return to action at the Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah March 6-8 in St. George, Utah.
