PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Wyoming women's golf team won the consolation bracket at the Mountain Classic Matchplay on Wednesday at The Classic Club.
The Cowgirls finished their final match all square with Gonzaga, 2-1-2, but won the tiebreaker.
Elle Higgins birdied No. 16 and held on for a victory over Grace Lee, 3&2, and
Emerson Purcell won by forfeit for UW.
Kira Reisner earned a tie with Taylor Mularski in a back and forth 18-hole match.
The Cowgirls tied Weber State 2-1-2 on Tuesday but won the tiebreaker to advance to the consolation final against Gonzaga. UW opened the eight-team, three-day event with a 3-1-1 loss to Montana State on Monday.
"I am extremely proud of the team effort in every match this week. I can't say enough about the mental toughness and team camaraderie that I believe kept us in each match," UW head coach
Josey Stender said. "We have a lot of positive feedback to draw from and a solid two weeks of hard work before our next event."
The Cowgirls will next play in the Grand Canyon Invitational Feb. 24-25 on the GCU Golf Course in Phoenix.
