LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/30/26) – The University of Wyoming soccer team is in playoff mode. The Cowgirls have two regular-season matches remaining in 2026, likely needing results from both in order to keep their postseason dream alive.
The first of those matches is against Air Force on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex. The game will be streamed on MW+.
"It has been the same story the last two years, it's going to come down to the last week," head coach Josh Purdum said. "If we are focused one game at a time, and we give ourselves the best chance to win, we'll go into the last week with the idea that we are playing as if we are in a quarterfinal."
Wyoming is 11-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 (13 points) in Mountain West Conference play. The top of table looks like this: Colorado College (19 points), Air Force (18 points), Hawai'i (18 points), New Mexico (16 points), Grand Canyon (13 points) and UC Davis (10 points). Those seven squads are battling for four conference tournament spots.
The Falcons come into Sunday's contest as the hottest team in the league. They've won five in a row and, in addition to their conference mark, also own an 11-4-1 overall record.
The Cowgirls have dropped consecutive matches for the first time this season. They fell at Grand Canyon, 2-1, on Wednesday, which followed a 2-1 loss at Colorado College last weekend.
Sunday will feature two of the best offensive threats in the league. Wyoming boasts Alyssa Glover who has netted seven goals and logged eight assists for 22 points, which is second in the conference. Air Force's Annika Jost has eight goals and seven assists for 23 points, which is first in the league.
It will also be a stout battle in net. The Pokes' Haley Bartel lays claim to 53 saves with 16 goals surrendered for a GAA of 0.95, while the Falcons' Sydney Nelms owns 60 saves with 14 goals allowed for a GAA of 1.04.
It has been a level series all-time between Wyoming and Air Force. The Cowgirls own a slight 14-13-4 edge, however, the Falcons have gone 2-0-2 in the last four, including a 1-0 win in Laramie last season.
Following the match with the Falcons, the Pokes close out the regular season on Nov. 7 against Hawai'i at 12 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
