LOGAN, Utah (Jan. 24, 2026) – It was a poor first three minutes from the Wyoming Cowgirls, but it was a sensational final 37 minutes as the Cowgirls took the rematch on the road with Utah State, 74-56. Wyoming outscored USU 74-47 after falling behind 9-0 early to claim its first road victory of the season.
Saturday was the inverse of Wednesday against the Aggies as Wyoming came out cold to start the game and Utah State was the one to jump out to an early lead, scoring the game's first nine points. The Cowgirls called a timeout a little over three minutes into the game, trailing 9-0. Out of the timeout, a Malene Pedersen turnaround finally got UW on the board. From there, the rest of the quarter saw both teams struggle offensively but the Cowgirls were able to claw in front with 10 straight before USU tied things up at 10-10 after one.
UW opened the second with the first two hoops as it went up 14-10. After a Utah State bucket, back-to-back 3-pointers from Jane Rumpf and Henna Sandvik put the Cowgirls up 20-12. Wyoming led 25-14 at the second quarter media after another 3-pointer and a Logann Alvar putback. Following the timeout, the defenses from both the Cowgirls and Aggies remained solid as UW led 29-18 at halftime.
The Cowgirls started the second half with the first five points, leading to a quick USU timeout a minute into the quarter as the lead went up to 34-18. After the timeout, the Aggies came alive a bit, as they trimmed the deficit down to just nine before back-to-back hoops from Sandvik put Wyoming back up 43-29 at the media timeout. Utah State again came out of a timeout strongly, this time cutting the Cowgirl lead down to just 43-36, forcing a UW timeout with 2:40 left in the frame. Both teams traded 3-pointers out of the timeout before Wyoming got the last three of the quarter and led 49-39 going to the fourth.
Utah State continued its strong play in the second half, scoring the first four of the fourth before a Pedersen 3-pointer got UW on the board. From there, back-to-back-to-back Wyoming layups brought the lead back up to 13. The Cowgirl lead was 64-47 with 4:20 left after three consecutive possessions dominated on both ends of the court by Aurore Eyango and Heidur Karlsdottir. After a USU timeout, Rumpf buried a 3-pointer as the Cowgirls now led by 20. The Aggies would get to within 16 in the final four minutes but wouldn't threaten at all down the stretch.
Wyoming had four players score in double figures, led by Pedersen's 17 on 7-of-11 shooting. Eyango was sensational in the victory, pouring in a career-high 13 on 6-of-7 shooting. Rumpf and Alvar scored 16 and 12, respectively in the win and combined to shoot 12-for-21. Eyango and Sandvik led the Cowgirls with four assists each while Payton Muma and Rumpf both added three. As a team, Wyoming had 21 assists, the fourth time this season the Cowgirls have had 20-plus assists in a game.
The Cowgirls blistered the nets, shooting a season-high 57.4-percent (31-54), including 68-percent in the second half and going 11-of-14 (78.6-percent) in the fourth. UW also shot 9-of-18 from 3-point range, shooting a season-high percentage as a team from beyond-the-arc. USU shot 38.2-percent and went 5-of-20 from 3-point range.
UW was plus-nine on the boards and allowed just two second-chance points. The Aggies outscored the Cowgirls 12-5 in points off turnovers while Wyoming had the edge, 34-26 in points in the paint. Wyoming got 18 points from its bench in the win.
Next up, the Cowgirls return home looking to win their fourth straight as Fresno State comes to Laramie for a 6:30 p.m., tip Wednesday, January 28.
