LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 5, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls continue their first week of regular season action Friday evening as they host Long Beach State for a 6:30 tip. Wyoming is looking to bounce back from its season-opening loss Tuesday night to Saint Mary's.
Friday's game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming lost 56-47 to Saint Mary's to open the season Tuesday evening. SMC closed the game on a 13-4 run the final 5:49 of the contest to pull away late. The Cowgirls were led by Malene Pedersen's game-high 14 points in the loss. It was Pedersen's 70th career game scoring in double figures and 21st consecutively dating back to last season. Pedersen also added five boards and was one of four Cowgirls with two assists in the contest.
A pair of Cowgirls, Logann Alvar and Lana Beslic made their first-career starts against the Gaels. Beslic led UW with a pair of steals on the night while Alvar had a career-high seven points and made five free throws. In addition to Alvar and Beslic's starts, four players made their debuts with the Brown & Gold. Aurore Eyango, Henna Sandvik, Jane Rumpf and Peyton Wohlford all saw their first action at Wyoming. Sandvik and Mikyn Hamlin also scored their first-career points in the game against the Gaels.
Off the bench, Payton Muma scored nine points and tied a career-high with four made field goals. UW got 16 points from its reserves in the opener. Heidur Karlsdottir also came off the bench and scored a career-high five points while making two field goals, her best in a Cowgirl uniform thus far. Sandvik led Wyoming with six rebounds and made all six of her attempts at the free-throw line.
SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE
Friday will be Long Beach State's season opener. Long Beach State averaged 68.2 points per game last season and were ninth in the nation in rebounding, averaging 42.5 boards per game in 2024-25. LBSU shot 38-percent from the floor and 28.3-percent from 3-point range a season ago. Beach opponents scored 68.7 points per game, shot 38.2-percent overall and 29.7-percent from beyond-the-arc. Long Beach State averaged 13.3 assists per game and forced its opponents into more turnovers per contest. LBSU averaged nearly nine steals per game last season.
The Beach returns a pair of Big West All-Freshman Team members from 2024-25 in JaQuoia JonesBrown and Mykelle Richards. Jones-Brown averaged 7.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season while Richards averaged 7.7 points and 4.2 rebounds a contest. LBSU also returns significant players in Judit Oliva Fernandez and Kennan Ka. Long Beach State also welcomes in a familiar transfer in Khylee Pepe, who spent her first four seasons at San Diego State.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST LONG BEACH STATE
Wyoming is 0-1 all time in the series against LBSU. This will be the first meeting in Laramie and the first matchup with The Beach since 1984.
