SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Nov. 14, 2025) – Santa Clara used a couple of big scoring runs Friday night as the Wyoming Cowgirls lost on the road to the Broncos, 76-45.
Both teams got off to slow starts offensively Friday as turnovers hurt both teams to begin. Wyoming eventually got things going, thanks to hitting the offensive glass and built an early 11-8 lead. The Broncos would respond to end the first quarter, however, ending the frame on an 8-0 run to take a 16-11 lead into the second.
The Santa Clara scoring run continued to begin the second as it ballooned the lead to 24-11 with 6:25 remaining in the half, forcing a Cowgirl timeout. After the timeout, the Broncos lengthened their advantage to 34-11 as turnovers repeatedly plagued UW. Santa Clara's lead was 34-14 at the half.
Madi Symons, who ended the half with a 3-pointer for the Cowgirls, opened the scoring in the third with another from beyond-the-arc. Both teams began the half knocking down shots as a couple of hoops from Malene Pedersen cut the Wyoming deficit down to 42-27. The Broncos continued to be efficient offensively though and led 47-27 at the media timeout. The Santa Clara lead was 60-29 after three quarters after it went on yet another big run.
Wyoming was able to get some things working inside in the fourth, scoring eight paint points in the final 10 minutes. The Cowgirl bench scored 10 points in the frame after Pedersen opened the scoring in the quarter with a pair of 3-pointers. Katie Harrington saw her first action as a Cowgirl down the stretch.
UW shot 35.7-percent from the floor and went 4-of-17 from beyond-the-arc in the loss. The Broncos meanwhile hit 42-percent and made 6-of-20 from 3-point range. The Cowgirls turned the ball over 15 times while Santa Clara committed just seven.
Santa Clara outscored Wyoming 52-22 in the paint and had a 15-2 advantage on second-chance points. The Broncos outscored the Cowgirls 16-4 in points off turnovers and got 35 bench points. SCU also had a 9-4 edge in fast break scoring.
Pedersen led all scorers with a season-high 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 2-of-4 from deep. Symons had eight and also hit a pair of 3-pointers to go along with a career-high three blocks. Aurore Eyango had the Cowgirls two steals in the loss and was one of five off the bench to score for Wyoming.
