FRESNO, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2025) – Three Cowboys were named All-Mountain West as the Cowboys took a fourth-place team finish and the Cowgirls placed sixth at the Mountain West Cross Country Championship, Friday morning, in Fresno, Calif.
COWBOYS
The Cowboys finished in fourth place with 87 points, going 5-7-13-29-42. The average team time came out to 23:32 with Wyoming improving by nine points in the last three splits.
Senior
Jacob White matched his best Mountain West Championship finish, crossing the line fifth with a time of 22:59.4. He last finished fifth in 2022 when Wyoming hosted the championship. White held his ground in fifth from the 2.25-mile mark to the finish. With his fifth-place finish, White was named to the All-Mountain West First-Team. This is his second First-Team honor and third All-Mountain selection for cross country.
In an unbelievable run, senior
Ryker Holtzen finished seventh with a time of 23:03.6. This is his best MW finish and 11 places higher than a year ago. Holtzen rose at each split, starting from 13th and overtaking New Mexico's Kosgei in the last kick. Holtzen's seventh-place finish earned him All-Mountain West First-Team honors, his first cross country selection.
White and Holtzen were the top two Americans to cross the line, with the next best coming in 10th. They were led by runners from Eritrea, Kenya and England.
The Feurs, France native, senior
Mathis Chavand, showed out in his first MW championship. He finished in 13th place at 23:20.7 to lead Wyoming to one of four teams to have three finishers in the Top 15. Chavand was running steady in 15th before rising two spots following the 4-mile mark. With his 13th-place finish, Chavand was named to the All-Mountain West Second-Team.
With three All-Conference selections, the Cowboys match their most in Mountain West history, with the previous coming in 2018 and 2019.
Senior
Mac Zastrow took 29th when he crossed the line at 23:52.6. While he fell from the lead pack at the start, he gained three spots in the last split to give Wyoming 26 points. This is also Zastrow's best MW championship finish.
The last scoring Cowboy was graduate
Aidan Ramsey. He finished 42nd with a time of 24:20.0 after gaining seven places from the 2.25-mile mark on. Adding the last 36 team points, Ramsey sealed the fourth-place finish.
The next Cowboy to cross the line was redshirt-freshman
Tanner Brown. Finishing in 49th, he pushed that final scoring spot to help Wyoming hold its fourth place. Brown saw his highest placement at the finish but stayed near 50th through the 8k.
Coming in 53rd was sophomore
Nolan Hoffman. He ran a time of 24:39.8, a personal best in the 8k. Hoffman made a big leap following the 2.25-mile mark as he jumped 10 places to 55th in less than two miles.
Freshman
Colin Olson, the only Cowboy freshman to run at the championship, ran to 64th with a time of 25:12.9. He rose from 70th to get in the Top 64 in his first championship.
The final two Cowboys to cross the line were sophomores
Austin Akers and
Meyer Smith. Akers finished 69th with a time of 25:24.9 while Smith ran a time of 26:06.8 for 77th.
COWGIRLS
The Cowgirls finished sixth as a team with 172 points. The scoring five went 33-38-43-45-46 with an average time of 21:23. The squad also shaved off 23 points throughout the 6k race.
Redshirt-freshman
Claire Engelhardt was the first finisher for Wyoming in the 6k. She ran to 33rd in 21:05.7, a personal best. At the 1-mile mark , was in 53rd but fought in a great race for 33rd.
In what was a first for the season, junior
Brionna Holso came second for the Cowgirls in 38th. Her time of 21:17.8 was a personal best. Her biggest leap came after the 1-mile mark, where she rose 19 places.
Graduate
Marina Trave is the first MW returner to finish for Wyoming as she took 43rd. Crossing the line at 21:26.4, she also improved as the race went on.
To close the scoring five, sophomore
Muriel Jones and senior
Libby Berryhill finished back-to-back for 45th and 46th, respectively. Jones lost a bit of a lead throughout the race but still ran a personal-best time of 21:30.6. Berryhill also ran a personal best of 21:31.4 to close her MW championship career with a top finish.
Two more Cowgirls finished right behind the group of Jones and Berryhill. In 47th was sophomore
Hanan Aldelemy with a time of 21:31.9, one-tenth of a second off a personal best. Next was senior
Rozlyn Slichko with a personal-best time of 21:33.8 for 48th.
Other finishers for Wyoming were sophomore
Gracie Uhre with a personal-best time of 22:09.8 for 68th, redshirt-freshman
Elliana Zock with a personal best of 22:16.9 for 71st and sophomore
Ella Unrein coming in 87th with a time of 22:44.8, also a personal best.
UP NEXT
Wyoming will head to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the NCAA Mountain Regional on Nov. 14. The Top 2 teams from each regional will get an auto-bid to the NCAA Championship while 14 additional teams will be selected for an at-large bid. For individuals, the first four regional finishers not from a selected team will also earn an auto-bid with two at-large selections.
