COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (9/21/24) – The University of Wyoming men's golf team sits in ninth as a team at 10-over after Day 1 of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at Eisenhower – Blue Course.
Patrick Azevedo paces the Pokes, as he's in a tie for third with a first-round 70 (-2).
"We played solid," head coach
Joe Jensen said. "There's good golf there. Patty, he competed, and that's Patty's game. He put a bad start behind him. Jaren is steady. Brody is a steady character. We are just not firing on all cylinders right not. We are a little sloppy with some mental mistakes."
Colorado State leads the team standings at 2-under. The Rams' Matthew Wilkins is atop the leaderboard following a first-round 65 (-7).
Azevedo's card was chuck full of birdies. He poured in seven of them, however, a triple bogey and a pair of bogeys scarred what could have been a very strong round.
Jaren Calkins checked in at a tie for 18th after a 73 (+1). He finished strong with three birdies in his final nine holes.
Kristof Panke holds onto a tie for 63rd following a first-round 77 (+5). He had a trio of birdies, as well, but two double bogeys offset that.
Brody Leid is tied for 74th, recorded an opening-round 78 (+6).
Damon Vilkauskas is in 87th place after a first-round 79 (+7).
Round 2 gets underway Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
