LARAMIE, Wyoming (9/16/24) – The University of Wyoming men's golf team is set to travel to familiar territory this week. The Cowboys participate in the Ram Masters Invite on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Fort Collins Country Club.
It's a par-71 course that stretches 7,049 yards. It's a 54-hole format with players completing 36 holes on Tuesday and 18 on Wednesday.
"It's all going to come down to our preparation," head coach
Joe Jensen said. "We have a good foundation at this course where the kids have seen Fort Collins Country Club. So, my message to them is let's have a good prep and a good tournament from that prep work."
Typically, Wyoming has begun the season at the Ram Masters Invite, but this year is different. The Pokes took part in the Palouse Collegiate last week and did so impressively.
Wyoming stood as the only program with three individuals finishing inside the top 10.
Kristof Panke took third, while
Patrick Azevedo and
Jaren Calkins both finished in a tie for ninth.
"It was awesome to have three guys in the top 10," Jensen said. "It was just a good solid start to the season in a really good field."
The Ram Masters Invite represents a tournament that Wyoming has done well at in years past. The Pokes have finished in the top five as a team in three of the last five tournaments.
The 2024 edition of the Ram Masters Invite is a 16-team field. Schools participating include Colorado, Valparaiso, Sacramento State, Boise State, Long Beach State, Utah Valley, Denver, Rice, CSU Fullerton, Idaho, UC Santa Barbara, Utah Tech, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and UC Davis.
Following the Ram Masters Invite, Wyoming has a quick turnaround. The Cowboys tee it up at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational Saturday-Monday.
