USAFA, Colo. (Sept. 13, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team opened action for the new season Friday at day one of the Bedford Cup hosted by Air Force. This weekend is the first of four tournaments this fall for Wyoming.
The Cowgirls picked up a trio of singles victories and a doubles win on day one. Returnee Adel Ismagulova defeated Davidson's Charlotte Calderwood in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-2 in consolation action Friday to get Wyoming in the win column. A pair of Cowgirls also got consolation victories in their first action for the Brown & Gold as Eugenia Ceinos and Ruby Young earned third set, super-set wins.
Ceinos rallied to win 1-6, 6-4 and 10-6 over Davidson's Savanna Kollock. Young, meanwhile, won a hard-fought match against Montana State's Kavya Khirwar, 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7) and 10-7.
In doubles, the team of Violetta Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva tallied the lone win in that category for UW. Borodina and Mashabayeva defeated Claudia Martinez and Marley Lambert of Denver, 8-4.
Wyoming returns to action Saturday at the Academy with day two of the Bedford Cup.
