KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Wyoming Cowgirls golf opened play with an opening round 305 Monday at the Hawaii Rainbow Whine Invitational on Kapolei Golf Course.
The Cowgirls (+17) are in 14
th place with 36 holes remaining in the team's final tournament of the fall schedule.
Lucia Morelli shot a 73 (+1) to lead UW. The freshman finished strong with an impressive 34 (-2) on the back nine.

Kyla Wilde shot a 74 (+2) and freshman
Erika Cook of Greybull posted a 76 (+4) to contribute to the team scores.
Sophie Spiva, a junior from
Casper playing as an individual, is tied with Morelli for 32
nd on the player leaderboard at 73 (+1).
"Lucia, Kyla and Sophie had excellent rounds today," UW head coach
Josey Stender said. "Erika also scrambled well to put up a competitive score. We played much better than we scored as a team and have some ground to make up but we have 36 holes left."
Colorado State leads the tournament with a first-round 276 (-12), eight shots ahead of second-place UC Irvine. The Rams' Lacey Uchida (-8) is on top of the individual standings ahead of Nevada's Nikki Chindavong (-6).
