Rancho Mirage, Calif. (April 18, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl golf squad opened up play at the Mountain West Championships on Tuesday completing the first round of action at the Mission Hills Golf Club. The Cowgirls got off to a strong start finishing the day tied for seventh as a team with a trio of athletes in the top 25.
Jadan Gonzalez put together an excellent opening round shooting a 70 (-2) to finish the day tied for fourth currently sitting ahead of three athletes who are ranked inside the top 100.
Morgan Ryan also finished the day inside the top ten posting a first round score of 71 (-1) wrapping up the day tied for eighth. The duo of Ryan and Gonzalez posted nine of the Cowgirls' 11 birdies in the opening round.
Meghan Vogt put together a solid opening round shooting a 73 (+2) finishing the day tied for 17
th. Rounding out the Cowgirl lineup,
Samantha Hui and
Grace Dunkleberger closed out the day in 44
th and 45
th respectively.
As a team, the Cowgirls sit in a tie for seventh after one round of play sitting event with SDSU with a score of 295 (+7). Heading into the second round, the Cowgirls trail Colorado State and UNLV by just one stroke. No. 43 ranked New Mexico sits atop the team standing currently with a score of 285 (-3) while No. 8 ranked San Jose State sits in second with a score of 286 (-2).
The Cowgirls will continue play at the Mountain West Championships tomorrow with the second round set to tee off at 8 a.m. MT.
