St. George, Utah (March 10, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl Golf squad continued their impressive play the SUU Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Friday at the Sunbrook Golf Course. After two rounds of play the Cowgirls continue to sit in first place as a team with two individuals in the top five with one round left to play.
"Today was a great learning experience for us. Weather conditions were a little tougher and the pressure felt a little different which impacted us mostly on the cutch putts." Head Women's Golf Coach
Josey Stender said, "I'm proud of the grit and focus they showed today. Tomorrow they know we need to continue to have a confident and committed awareness of our own game, not any other player or team around us."
Samantha Hui led the way for the Cowgirls in the second round shooting a 74 (+2) finishing the day in second place sitting just three strokes behind the tournament leader.
Jadan Gonzalez finished her day just behind Hui sitting in a tie for third after shooting a second round of 73 (+1).
Meghan Vogt posted a second round of 78 (+6) finishing the day inside the top 25 currently tied for 21
st. Rounding the Cowgirl lineup is the duo of
Morgan Ryan and
Sophie Spiva who are tied for 33
rd and 49
threspectively.

After starting the second round in first place in the team standings, the Cowgirls battled all day to hold their lead and they did so successfully. With one round left to play Wyoming boasts a team score of 592 (+16) sitting one stroke ahead of second place California Baptist. Mountain West rival Boise State along with CSUB currently sit in a tie for third place with a score of 596 (+20).
The final round of play is set to tee off at 9 a.m. MT tomorrow as the Cowgirls look to hold onto their lead and win their first tournament since 2018.
