LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 27, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team travels South for a mid-day matchup Wednesday at Denver. First serve against the Pioneers is slated for noon. This will be the Cowgirls' first meeting with Denver since March of 2020, which was Wyoming's final match of that season before the rest was cancelled by the NCAA due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

UW (4-6) is coming off a split over the weekend in Nebraska in which it blanked Kansas City, 7-0 Saturday before falling to the Cornhuskers, 4-1 Sunday. Despite the loss to Nebraska, the final score was not indicative of how well the Cowgirls played.

"We lost a battle," said Head Coach Dean Clower after the match Sunday.

"That was the best match we played all year."

Violetta Borodina won the lone match for the Cowgirls Sunday, as she was victorious 6-2 and 6-2 at the No. 4 singles spot. Borodina won both of her matches over the weekend, and along with Nikol Dobrilova, leads Wyoming with six wins in dual action this spring. Borodina and her partner, Maria Oreshkina also won at the second doubles position against the Cornhuskers and went 2-0 overall on the weekend.

Against Kansas City, Sophie Zehender (No. 1), Oreshkina (No. 2), Noesjka Brink (No. 3), Dobrilova (No. 4) and Ana Fernandez (No. 6) all picked up singles wins. Fernandez and Zehender also won at No. 1 doubles Saturday, as did Brink and Dobrilova at the third spot. Brink and Dobrilova lead all doubles pairs with five wins this spring.

Denver comes into Wednesday's match with a 5-2 record overall and is 4-0 at home in 2023. The Pioneers defeated Colorado State, 4-0 in their first dual of the season.
