LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 26, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirls' three-match winning streak was snapped Sunday morning on the road in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Nebraska. Violetta Borodina got Wyoming's lone win, at the No. 4 singles position.
The Cowgirls (4-6) fought hard Sunday as the final score was not indicative of the way the match was played. UW lost the doubles point to open the day, dropping 2-of-3 matches. Borodina and Maria Oreshkina won at the No. 2 spot, 6-3. The Cowgirls lost 6-2 and 6-4 at the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively.
On the singles' side, Borodina was victorious in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2. A pair of Cowgirls' matchups went unfinished in the midst of a third set before the Cornhuskers clinched the match by winning their fourth point. Sophie Zehender at the first spot and Ana Fernandez at No. 6 were both in battles in their respective matches before the match was called.
Wyoming returns to action with another road contest to begin the month of March as it travels to face Denver Wednesday, March 1 in a noon matchup.
