LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming Track & Field teams will head to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2023 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this week.
Hosted by the University of New Mexico, the Cowboys and Cowgirls got a chance to run on the track two weeks ago at the Don Kirby Invite. The event will begin on Thursday with the first day of the Men's Heptathlon and the Women's Pentathlon followed by the 500OM and the Distance Medley Relays. Friday and Saturday will be full days of competition.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2023 Indoor Track and Field Championship and can be purchased here: 2023 Indoor Track & Field Championships | Mountain West (ticketmaster.com). Please note that there is no fee to enter on Thursday. Additionally, if someone is planning to attend both Friday and Saturday, the Mountain West recommends purchasing both days at the same time. All ticket sales will be online.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will head into the Championships with top marks in the conference from the season in numerous events. Kitana Burgard ranks No. 1 and No. 2 respectively in the 200M and the 60M. Burgard moved into the No. 3 spot on the Wyoming Top 10 List this season in both events. Katelyn Mitchem ranks No. 4 in both the Mile and the 800M. Mitchem set school records in both events, most recently in the 800 last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. Sadie McMullen and Aumni Ashby rank fourth in the Long Jump and the Triple Jump.
On the men's side Cameron Burkett checks in at No. 2 in the Shot Put. Burkett set the Freshman record at Wyoming and moved onto the school Top 10 List in the event during his first meet as a Cowboy. Wyatt Moore in the 60M, Kareem Mersal in the Long Jump and Sage Coventry in the Heptathlon all slot in the third spot in the conference heading into the week. Mersal is the reigning league indoor champion in the Long Jump. Jefferson Danso in the Triple Jump, Hunter Brown in the Long Jump and Samuel Schneider in the High Jump all check in at No. 4. Mason Norman at No. 6 in the 3000M and Jaymison Cox in the 400M at No. 7 both broke school records in their events earlier in this season.
