Palm Desert, California - (Feb. 13, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl golf squad opened up their spring schedule on Monday completing the first two rounds of play at the Mountain Classic Matchplay hosted at the Classic Club. The Cowgirls opened the tournament by splitting their two matches on the day.

Josey Stender said "It was great to see the team's response this afternoon. Morgan came out strong and never looked back. Also, great to see Meghan back after injuries and Sophie get a win as a freshman. Overall competitive start to the spring season and we look forward to build on it."
The Cowgirls opened the day against top seeded Nevada dropping the match 4-1-0 with
Jadan Gonzalez picking up an impressive win over Nevada's Gabby Kano taking the match up three with two holes left to play.
Wyoming bounced back in the second match of the day as they notched a 3-2-0 over fifth seeded Portland State.
Morgan Ryan led the way with a dominant win over Tya Smith securing the match four holes to play. In her return from injury,
Meghan Vogt looked solid picking up a win over Mariana Garcia Rosette. True Freshman
Sophie Spiva sealed the win for the Cowgirls Payten Shimizu in a hard-fought match to advance Wyoming to the fifth-place match.
In tomorrow's fifth place, the Cowgirls will be up against No. 7 seeded Seattle who defeated No. 6 seeded Southern Utah in the consolation round. No. 1 seeded Nevada is set to face No. 3 seeded Northern Arizona in the finals.
The final round of matches is set to tee off at 8 a.m. MT tomorrow.
